Hello,

I have read a fair bit about fiber glassing and the like on this forum, but there are still a couple of things that I have either missed, of did not find;

1) When you pre-treat the wood that you are putting into the boat with epoxy resin, do you use hardener? If so, how much?

2) What kind of coverage should I expect? Would a quart be able to reasonably glass in 30 feet of 8oz fabric @ 60" wide? If not... how far would a quart go?

Thanks guys!

Re: Resin treating wood.

Hardener is always needed for epoxy and the amount (ratio) never changes for the type or brand used, if it says 2-1, then it's always 2-1, same for 1-1 or 5-1. With polyester it can change, but stay within the manufacturers recommended range.

Some of the websites for epoxy will give an estimate on the amount you will need and it will vary slightly depending on the viscosity of the epoxy and surface you are applying it to. With cloth you can get about a 50-50 ratio by weight, of glass to resin. 1lb of glass needs 1lb of resin, this does not take into account waste, this is only for the finished laminate, so add more resin to the shopping list than you will actually need.
