Total overhaul of a 18 feet Figlas and want to know whether it is worth it.
As a brief introduction I am Belgian living in South America. I work in reinsurance of offshore specialist risks such as barges, tugs, OSV´s, and floating storage units and so on. So i have a certain knowledge, but surely this will not help me with this project!
This hull came as an opportunity as it located in a place 300meters from my home where i can work on it. And it is not so easy to find a lot of boats in this area since the big lakes are quite some distance.
Obviously i will have to do a complete replacement of transom, floor, keel, stringers, well about everything.
I was not yet able to look at the bilge, stringers situation but appreciating the fiber glass casco (spider cracks, peeling of gel coating, etc..) do you guys think its worth it, in a country where a lot of people can assist me (very low cost).
Or do you think that the structural integrity of the glass is affected to an extent that it renders the work impossible?
Many thanks for your advise.
