Re: restore shine to gel coat, Vertglass???
I have used Vertglas for three seasons and have learned a thing or two. First thing is the Vertglas kit gives you the hull cleaner, a boat wash, applicator, sealer and the sealer remover all in one box. These are all great when doing it for your first time and the instructions are helpful. Things I have learned, first give the boat a through cleaning, second scrub the hull, I use soft scrub but any of the advertised hull cleaners will work. Remember, the sealer will cover anything that does not get clean or scrubbed off the boat up, this will look even worse than before. Third, I clean the boat of all cleaner residue, I use acetone, just be careful of all painted surfaces and decals as it will damage most. Fourth, I apply the sealer; I use a 10 piece of artificial chamois soaked in sealer to pull the sealer across the hull in thin even coats. I have a buddy help since the sealer will dry very fast. I would apply no less than 8-10 coats, less than that really shows the streaks and does not give you the best results. Important things never clean the hull with harsh cleaners, like purple, orange or green stuff, they will remove the sealer. I use the blue coral car wash, you can get it at any Wal-mart and its cheap. When the finish starts to flake off, and it will, try adding additional coats of sealer, this sometimes helps. I use my boat exclusively in salt water all year and it sits on a trailer in my drive, so the finish requires a new coat every year. Hope this helps.<br />-Mike
