I came across a 5HP Golden Jet 500 in my basement, and I thought it would be neat to restore it. My dad says the carburetor is shot on it, and I would need to find a new one or a kit to rebuild it. All I know is the model number is 1142, does anyone know where I can find a carburetor, or a kit for the carburetor on this engine?

Re: Restoring a 5HP Eska

Unfortunately the Eska is not a good investment in time or money.
Read "setting points on 7.5 gamefisher"Below your post.
Parts are a pain to get and can be expensive.Motor is noisy, vibrates,
is finicky and under powered. If you can get it to run with very little investment get her running and sell it and put the money toward an Evimrude/Johnson 5,5.5 or 6 hp. from 52 -73 Easy to work on, bullet prif,
smooth, reasonably quiet, and more powerful than the Eska.Routine parts are available at dozens of places.Including here at iboats.

Re: Restoring a 5HP Eska

I just tried to go through this. One word.....headache. Everyone is right, its not worth the time or money unless you happen to be made of both in which case by all means. Mine was a 7.5hp in pretty good shape but its just a pain to find information on service proceedures (even if you have a service manual they are pretty vague), and parts (only a handful, if even that, that can get "some" parts). For what it would be worth to repair, and service you could probably find a merc, Jonson or rudey in running condition for maybe just a bit more and never have to deal with those headaches again. take my word for it. I dumped almost $245 in parts and manuals and it wont start to save my life and I am no slouch when it comes to mechanical repairs.
