Hello. I am considering buying (very cheaply) a Thompson 24' Fishing Boat that has some floor and transome rot.

Has anyone tackled a project like this. I am in the auto body industry, but never tried restoring a boat. I am assuming worse scenario...replacement of stringers and transome.

Let me know your thoughts...thanks!

Yes, I have read for hours...just wondering if anyone has attempted this on a Thompson 240 Hardtop. If so, any advice?

Re: Restoring a Thompson 240

Its pretty much all the same. A boat is a boat, the suffering and pain is similar in all regards. you just have to dive in and get dirty, ask lots of questions, and post lots of pics.

The only thing I will ask is if it is a fiberglass or a wooden boat. Woodies present a whole different set of challenges, wheras 'glass boats are really quite easy to deal with, just have to put forth the elbow grease.

The best advice I can give is to decide how the boat will be used, do a lot of planning and research, and take your time. You can waste a lot of money and time changing your mind halfway through the project. Good luck...
