I have an older aluminum hulled boat. No manufacturer name on the boat. Hull ID is listed as Homemade. Which I know its not home made. I want to paint my boat and fill in all the holes for accessories from the previous years. I know there is hole patching compound is it safe to sand once its cured. And is it safe to strip and polish aluminum to go into the water.
Following this thread. Looking for recomendations on removing oxidation on the painted aluminum. Curious if there is something different for aluminum verse fiberglass?

Don't post in old inactive topics nor ask questions about your boat in some one else's topic

oxidation on aluminum is mechanically removed via sanding

as soon as you sand an area, wipe it down with acetone and prime with an etching aluminum primer and move to the next area.

if you want to sand the whole boat at once and prime the whole boat at once, you can not let it sit more than a day with exposed aluminum. aluminum begins to oxidize almost immediately.

Thanks for that!
What about the painted aluminum? Can I use the same cleaning, buffing and waxing products that is used with fiberglass boats?
