well, project finally complete. fyi, i have a 20' center console, never been painted, but needed to because it's staying in this year. i didn't want to go through the hastles of sanding, priming, and painting with an ugly black paint.

i picked up dolphinite's new clear bottom paint. i hauled the boat out on saturday morning (been in for about a month) and cleaned well with on/off (nasty stuff). per directions, i DID NOT SAND. the paint (looked like snot) went on smooth with a foam brush. since it was clear, i didn't even waste the time to tape a line and just went by eyesight. after two coats and some blocking to get off the trailer, i left for the night. on sunday, it looked great. it's painted, but you couldn't tell from 5' away. was back in the water by 1000.

i highly recommend the product. at $220 a gallon, it's pricey, but west marine is selling it for $170 all this week. i only used a half a gallon, so i have it for next year. with no sanding needed, i can easily remove the paint and have an unhurt gelcoat. i basically have a protected boat that will stay in the water, yet you would never know unless i told you. and it was so easy to do. you'd be crazy not to use the product if you plan to keep a boat in moderate fouling waters.

Hi Matt, I was also thinking about putting the clear go fast paint on. My boat currently has nothing on it because it has always been trailered, but I am going to leave it in and i need something on the bottom to protect it. Some people have told me that they put in on proprely, but as soon as it hit the water the paint came off like plastic wrap. I know its early to tell, but how successful has the go fast been so far? thanks

mckenzie, haven't had a problem yet that i know of. i haven't been in the water to check the underneath, but i have felt what i can reach, about 4 inches below waterline. paint seems to be holding fine.

like i said, i followed the can and did not sand. i have seen instructions since then on their website that recommends sanding. i did ensure my bottom was very clean and dry prior to application.

if this stuff works like it seems to be, it will be the greatest product out there.
