I have a 1990 Evinrude 150 XP. Based on reading some forum threads, it sounds like this engine has a 5800 rpm rev limiter. What does it feel like when it hits the limiter? Does it simply not go higher or does it cause a momentary drop in rpm?

It just doesn't go any higher. Are you sure it's at 5800?

No, I do not have any literature saying what or if it has a limiter. I did read in these forums a thread that indicated these engines had a 5800 rpm rev limiter.

Your service manual should indicate that a factory power pack rev limit is 5800.

Look at your power pack and give us all the numbers on it.

Re: Rev Limiter

If I am looking at the right thing, the numbers on the power pack are:
CD6AL-5800
583865
13 G Y-OA

Thanks
