What's the rpm,s @ idle? Could be as simple is adjusting the idle I would think.

Re: Reverse dies???? SOS

the idle is at around 750 give or take.
I have the carbs off right now just cleaned them all up and now waiting for my gaskets. just want to make sure that it is not the reeds, if so then it would be easier to take everything off now since the carbs are already off.
Thanks

idle speed should be 750, but in gear. When you are in neutral it should be higher, my 120 is usually around 900-1000, but from what I understand there is no correct neutral idle speed. Also should check compression. I had a horrible problem with stalling while trying to dock. Once the motor blew up and I did a rebuild I didn't have that problem anymore! If you have low compression you will not be able to compensate for it, it needs to be fixed. Post your compression readings and we can go from there.

Hi DUKE my compression settings are 120,125,125. I have the carbs off right now and clean them waiting for the gaskets to come and i will be putting it back together.

OK, that's a good start! Checking reeds may not be a bad idea, but only because the carbs are off anyway. Do you know if they are metal or composite? Do you have any other symptoms (how does it run at WOT). If you are sure you are getting spark on all three I would give the carbs a good cleaning like you are doing(someone posted on another thread that a set of guitar strings from walmart do a great job of getting into all the little passages) then reinstall and reset everything to factory settings. Do the cam position at idle, idle mixture out one turn from lightly seated, and idle speed screw. Then (assuming it runs on the muffs) put it in the water and tie up tight to a sturdy dock thats out of the way. Put the boat in gear at idle. Adjust the mixture on the carbs first and when you get that right set your idle screw so that it is at 750-800 rpm (again, while in gear). Hopefully this will solve your problem

Re: Reverse dies???? SOS

Hello again Duke,
The boat runs fine at WOT, but once i come to a complete stop at idle it will die on me. I will have to adjust everything once i have the carbs back on. what is meant by lightly seated please explain to me.
thanks

turn both idle screws all the way in, but don't tighten hard at all. Once they are completely closed then open them back up by one turn. If you seat them too firmly you will damage them.

sorry, I meant all three mixture screws, not the idle. (and I forgot your engine has 3 carbs instead of two)
