ok i have a 1985 85 hp force motor, i hadnt notice this problem before but my wife says it has been there. when i drop it into reverse it makes the noise like it is trying to kick out of reverse. and the engine revs and drops the whole time. it doesnt have a problem one going backwards is this normal.

also about half a hour into the run to test my new/rebuilt prop i had the tell tale drop into the inside of the housing. see i forgot to secure the tube to the outside, problem now fixed. so it was spraying water around the engine and i believe towards the carbs. is this something i should worry about. i fixed the tube as soon as i noticed it and then ran wot for about a half hour to try and blow anything out that may have gotten in there. should i be ok?

Sounds like a cable adjustment for your "reverse" issue. Carbs should be ok.

Re: reverse, forward question

On my Outboard, 66 Chrysler 50hp, the adjustment is on the lower mid section of the outboard. I think you might have to remove the covers to get to it. Just follow the cable from your control box to the engine and you'll find it. Your adjustment might be different but it's in there somewhere. Look in the section of your manual that describes removing the lower housing. Hope that makes sense.

Re: reverse, forward question

Yea ljc i found it in my manual went out and checked well it was off just enough i suppose. I did a little test before and after before i put it in either gear and i could turn the prop in either direction and *** soon as a little resistance hit in rev it kicked out of gear now it doesnt. Also in forward when it got a little resistance it would kick out now it doesnt, in reverse a little was gears touching i suppose. In forward i could turn it about a inch and it would kick out now it stays in gear very well. Perhaps that was another issue for my rpm not being at proper specs at wot. If it was kicking out of gear? Dont know depending on how today goes i may run and try it in the water if not then tuesday for sure.thanks for the advice.

If that adjustment doesn't help, it's probably the clutch in the lower foot.
