reverse gear issue

Currently having issues with motor getting any power in reverse. With throttle all the in reverse position barely goes into reverse gear. Any ideas? Goes into reverse but no throttle control to throttle up, once in reverse. Can anyone explain how to adjust shift linkage? Mercruiser 4.3 sterndrive.......

That Sounds more like a Problem in the Control Box.....

I've checked all the connections with in the throttle control box, if that's what you mean? I have a new shift cable from this past off season when I had my bellows boots, etc. redone... I just don't know if cable is not adjusted right or if I'm losing a clutch dog?

Sounds like slack in the shift system somewhere. One thing worth checking is the coupling between the upper shift shaft (in the bellhousing) and the intermediate shift shaft (in the leg). I've seen a few of them (inverted "U" shaped coupling) spread a bit. Introduces an area of 'no movement' between the controls and the clutch in the leg. I usually just squeeze it a bit with a pair of vise grips and the problem 'goes away'.<br /><br />Good luck.<br /><br />Chris...............

It Sounds to me,<br />That the drive is Shifting,<br />But the motor is Not accellerating......<br />Right ??????<br />If So,<br />The control box is Shifting the drive, But not picking up the throttle, on the reverse stroke......
