This is a continuation of another post I started, but I made this new one to cut out the confusion.
I'm having reverse problems. In this Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Tejz-7mN5w

you can see me put it in Reverse and it only goes about a 1/4 of the speed it normally does. Also it make an audible click when shifting back to neutral. It just seems to Rev up but moves very little. BTW, forward works great, it will go 65mph...

I know I'm going to have to take it into the shop, that is when I find someone I can trust. I don't want them to adjust my cable, then bill me for an entire lower unit rebuild. That's why I'm here trying to get a better idea. These boat guys around here have already raped me for over $2000 and I'm still having issues.

Thanks in Advance,
Adrian

P.S. Had my motor painted. What do you think?

I have a 1987 150 Johnny and it has never pulled back hard enough to pull your hat off, it will get me off the trailer and stop me before I hit the dock so I'm not going to worry about it; your's must be doing something different since you banged the rock for you to notice it. No matter the color of the gear oil you could still tell if it had water in it. The other looks just like unburned oil and gas coming out the exhaust it which is normal.

I didn't notice any water when I drained the gear oil. As far as reverse goes, it used to have a lot more torque going backwards. I'm just trying to figure out why it's revving up but moving so slowly..

Has anything changed in your set-up? New prop? Rebuilt prop? Motor height change? Motor trimmed up or down more? Jack plate added? Anything at all?

No changes really. I had the motor painted, and since then it's been this way. I couldn't tell you what the shop may or could have done...

Check your prop shaft end play.
Take off the prop and check for any wear marks on the gearcase and melted rubber in the hub.,
Disconnect the shift cable from engine, shift directly by hand on the engine and see if the result is the same.

Was engine removed when painted? If so they may have reattached it at a different height than you had it which might cause the difference.

No, they didn't remove it, just taped it up and painted away...
