reverse lock microswitch

hello..im replacing the microswitch on my reverse lock system(1977 302 mercruiser 888)with a generic micro switch and was wondering if the switch on the reverse lock is normaly open or normaly closed..any help is greatly appreciated..thank you

Ayuh,... I believe yer talkin' 'bout the shift interrupt switch...

It's normally Open...

But if it really is the Reverse Lock switch, it will be normally closed.

Post photo to avoid confusion.

its definatly the reverse lock switch..its too the far right on the back of the engine..mounted on the reverse lock mechanism..so its always got power until its in reverse then the power is off?thank you for the replies

That's a really small photo, and since you have it remove we can't really see where it came from. The purpose of the reverse lock switch is to disable the UP trim function while in reverse gear. Do you have the Merc manual with a circuit diagram?

this pic should be bigger..i unbolted it from the revese lock system hopefullwith the bigger pic its in the background..so from what i gather from you is it has power until i put it in reverse..then it trips the switch and shuts power to the pump?..again thank you for taking the time out to respond

basically i bought a generic micro switch to replace the obsolete switch tha was factory.i bought one that i could wire normaly open or normaly closed..i will wire it normaly closed..i really appreciate the help with this..thank you much
