Reverse problems

I have a 1980 chrysler 45 hp outboard motor. I am having problems with the reverse on it. First off when I put it into reverse, half of the time it just grinds and won't go into reverse, and the other half the motor just kicks up. I have the motor lock on, which I think might be messed up. I haven't messed with the motor lock yet but was wondering if anybody had any suggestions or knew where I could get parts for the motor lock?
On the grinding note, I have tried adjusting the throttle cables some but hasn't fixed the problem yet. Any suggestions on that issue?

Thanks

Re: Reverse problems

possible your clutch dog is wore out. the edges get round and will cause it to not engage or slip out of gear. 1 possibility.

on the motor lock a model number prob will be needed to look up parts.
