Reverse question!

My reverse would not go into grear right..would click and not pull..i have adjusted all cables and shifter rod. when your motor is in reverse and running should you be able to stop the prop with your foot?

hahaha what i meant to say is i can do it...its like my prop is spun out...but only in reverse...i can stop it from spinning while motor is in reverse and running.

Make and model?
If you think it might be a prop problem try a known good prop, or check rotatin of prop shaft withgout the prop.

sounds like your linkage is out of adjustment .... or you have a busted cable or cable end
- look inside the control box and see if everything looks intact if it is then the cable it out of wack or broken in the middle

i have checked everything..all mechanisms are engaging..i made sure shifter rod is correct length..is there a gear in gearbox that controlls only the reverse because forward works perfectly fine.

If it is a 1966 3 HP., there is no reverse...

So it would depend on what motor we are talking about...but you don't seem to want to offer that info.

how come i can't get the image of a foot chopped up like it is ready for a stir fry out of my mind...... thinking after you get the linkage adjusted be better not to try the foot thing again.

hahaha i love stir fry....lol model # J40ELCO 40 hp johnson btw i just sold a 1958 3hp evinrude lighttwin..ran like a jewel...and your right..no reverse lol
