Does it matter if I put a reverse rotating E-tec on a boat by itself? What would be the problem if it is not standard?

Re: Reverse Rotating E-Tec

What type of boat? The concern is that a boat may have been balanced to offset propeller torque that would tend to lift the Starboard side while underway. A good example is the typical Starboard helm which helps offset this torque with the operator alone. Of course that changes when you add passengers. Other than that, which can be corrected by moving batteries, stuff, etc. There should be no other serious issues to consider other than propeller availability.

It's not uncommon for a single engine to have a counter gearcase and the owner not even know it. You just need to be aware of it when chosing a prop.

Where are you located?

Good point...never thought of it.
I have been using O/Bs for 30+ years and actually have no idea what direction any of them rotated at the prop end.
When i was a kid i was given an old Scott atwater 7.5 that had a problem with the LU. In forward it would kick out of gear. Put an opposite pitch prop on, and ran it in reverse.
No problem for several years.
