I reversed battery cables shortly and hit the key, nothing. No noise at all. From all i read, the rectifyer being fried would still allow the motor to start. Does anyone know if doing that could damage the starter solenoid and keep motor from turning over? I have 12 volts going in to the solenoid, but nothing coming out. Does the key have to be turned on for you to get a reading? Is there a main fuse i am missing maybe, all the gauges are working.

Depending on what HP/year motor you have, there may be a circuit breaker or a fuse that supplies 12 volts to the ignition switch itself. Check for 12v on the small yellow wire on the starter solenoid when you turn the ignition switch to the "start" position. If no 12v, then probably blown fuse or circuit breaker popped.

First we may need the year and hp of your motor. But you can still check in the engine compartment near the stater solenoid is a main circuit breaker. Make sure the button is pushed in. Hope this helps.
