rewinding stator 398-5704a4

the wires on my stator were bad so i thought that i would rewind it.the problem i have is what charging coils do i replace the old with?i had chipped all the factory plastic off and there is no saving the old.ive found a few coils online but not sure what 2 are the right ones.any ideas?

did you count windings very carefully and make sure you have the direction right. the factory plastic from what i can see by pics, is to protect the windings and make them look more complex than they really are lol, I would guess it also provides insulation and some structure to them.

that said if the winding are replaced with insulated (enameled) copper wire of the same size and the same number of windings in the same orientation... and wound as tightly and uniformly as possible. you could likely use spoxy to protect them. windings are simple to construct, just make sure you duplicate how they made em. You may want to poke about on the electric motor forums where they talk specifically about this very topic (proper winding)

Buy a replacement stator, not worth the hassle.

agreed, lots of hassle. will spend some good money on the stuff to do it without certainty that it will work when done, unless you are well experienced with this type of work. i am thinking $200 ish or so to buy new one... less for used and hope it is in good shape.
I would agree with BK, but wasn't really thinking of alternatives when i answered..... the curse of linear thinking.
