Hello again, since it's still going to snow tomorrow I have had to put my foam pouring on hold! I am now going to rewire things and have spent lots of time looking at different posts. It was stated to plan it, then do it. My background is in cooking and driving school bus so any and all help is appreciated! My boat is the 17ft landau Scout. I have a 3 switches pannel, 1)Bow/Nav lights 2) aerator 3) bilge. I was going to follow what was done before but not sure if that's the best way to go, I cut out a bunch of wires going nowhere??? Thanks again B. H. ( P.S. pictures help lots )

Use marine wire and connectors.
For DC, most switches go on the power side.
For heavy amp circuits, us a relay.
Use fuses or breakers, marine rated.
I would run a large wire (10 gauge or so)(both + and -) from the battery to the console. Then have them connected to distribution blocks. That way you have extra power and ground under the console if you add things later.

Re: rewiring fishing boat

That all sounds good but I only have a fishing boat, 17 ft. I am using 12 gauge wire. I have 2 wires coming from the front ( + - ) and 2 wires from the back ( + - ) hooking into a single, 3 position switch (running, off, anchor ) that has 6 terminals in back. I will also have a trolling motor and deck mate but they are only pos. & neg. The lights are what I'm confused with... Please advise B.H.

If you are running Minn Kota 55 on the bow run a seperate feed of 2 #8s at least and mount a 40 amp breaker on or near the battery. I also recomend the use of Anderson plugs on any high current circuit (trolling motor). Always add more room for switches down the road. Running lights, airators, GPS. interior lights. Yes I know it is only a fishing boat, but if it is setup right, the pleasure comes back to you ten times over!!! It took 6 seasons to get mine the way I wanted it.

Ayuh,.... Power from the battery to the center terminals of yer switch, 'n each Positive(+) wire to the lights on the upper, or lower terminals,...

All of the Grounds go to a Ground buss bar, which is wired to the battery's Negative(-) terminal,...
