I am looking at a new/used prop to replace my 19 pitch one. I am looking to go to a 17pitch. Is is possible to have a reworked prop that started out as a 19, then was redone to a 17? The one I'm looking at shows "48-74886-19" on the hub, but on the side, between the blades, shows "48-74886-19 17p".

Any ideas what I'm really looking at??

Re: Reworking prop / Changing pitch???

Others will probably disagree, but my dad uses a prop guy in Titusville, FL that says it's harder to "de-pitch" a prop and get the desire effects. He says that adding pitch through "cupping" and other techniques yield much better results. I'd say you're looking at a prop that has been depitched from a 19p to a 17p. If you can try it out before you buy it, that might help determine if it's the right prop for you.

Yep, I totally agree. It's much more effective to add "bite" which increases efficiency. When you reduce "bite" you're reducing efficiency. A true 17 will, most likely, yeild higher efficiency than a 19 converted to a 17.

Remember, to reduce pitch you are not actually taking the blade off of the hub and repositioning it.
