rhythmic vibration...

I just added this new (reman) motor...

Of the course the outdrive was off...

I got the alignment tool and aligned outdrive myself (first time).

There is a rhythmic vibration....what I mean by this is in NEUTRAL and idling the vibration is slower then when I increase the RPM's...still in NEUTRAL...
as I increase the RPM's the vibrations speeds up...

My guess is that the alignment is just a little off...

thoughts?

As I'm growing tired of working on this boat...I'm thinking I'm just going to have it aligned to prevent me from...well...going crazy

Re: rhythmic vibration...

When you did the alignment, did you turn the engine 90, 180, and 270? to recheck the alignment? That is how you check to make sure the coupler is ok. If it's a new coupler, it could be defective, if it was a good coupler, it may not be setting flat on the flywheel.

not a new coupler...but it worked fine when removed...

I marked it before removing it from the flywheel.

Its in the exact spot it was when removed.

I did rotate the engine, 90 and 180...don't think I rotated it 270....

It slid in smoothly. Does it sound like its "almost aligned"

Pull the outdrive and see if you still have the vibration.

Re: rhythmic vibration...

I'm assuming its ok to run it for a minute or two without the outdrive?

Should I stick a hose in the raw water inlet or just not run it for more than a minute or so?

Re: rhythmic vibration...

let me make sure I understand the diagnosis process....

if the vibration is gone with the outdrive off, its a mis-alignment issue and not the coupler.

If the outdrive is off and the vibration is still present, then the issue is the coupler...

right?

Re: rhythmic vibration...

Disconnect the raw water hose from the transom shield inside the boat, and hook your garden hose to it.
