Does any body know of a web site, or any other source that has reference charts or anything that can tell you the proper mounts and rings to use for your particular rifle. This is my second rifle purchase. It seems rather difficult to find the proper mounts and rings. I have emailed weaver several times with no response. I an unable to call them during business hours. My first rifle took multiple trips, with multiple returns to the sporting good store. It's got to be easier than that. I am brand new at this so It is probably just me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have actually been on that page with no luck. The rifle is a savage 62f. It is a .22 semi-auto. I see more reference on the web to the 64f. According to the manual everything is interchangable.

Re: rifle scope mounts

Most 22 rimfire rifles have a grove cut in the top of the receivier and all us a standard set of rings the only differance is in the tube size either 3/4 or 1" dia.

That's right there is a groove in the reciever. When you talk about tube size are you referring to the size of the scope? So it depends on what type of scope I choose?

Take the rifle (bolt removed and in a case) and let them see it.

You can get .22 mounts that fit the small 7/8" tube or the standard 1" tube. Try Midwayusa (They are based in MO) or try Brownells (more costly). If you have the dovetail in the top of the receiver alot of the scopes you purchase from Midwayusa come with free rings.

It will be easier to purchase a scope designed for .22 and the scope is set up for it. On my .22's I have a 3-9 on one and a 2-7 on anouther.

Re: rifle scope mounts

The mount you need is called a "Tip Off" to mate with your grooved receiver. The scope you chose depends on what kind of shooting you plan to do. The scope decides the rings you need. If you would like to shoot accurately from 25yds to 100yds, a cheap 4 power scope isn't the best choice. Check out rimfirecentral.com Have fun, and let us know what you get.

Re: rifle scope mounts

I have been looking around on the web today (it's been cold and rainy all day here)I have been looking at 3x9. I have seen a lot of scopes that come with rings, particularly simmons and bushnell. They fit the budjet, and they say they are specifically designed for 22 caliber rimfire rifles. I assume these will work. What do you you guys think? That is really all the info that I can provide about them. they really don't mention the rings in detail. My next thought is should I use a hi rise scope mount instead since there are fixed sights on my rifle.

Re: rifle scope mounts

I personal like a 1' tube 3 to 9 I bought a cheap rifle scope not a .22 scope because it's easier to get into when hunting, I am a squirrel hunter and use nothing but a head shot, I use a .22 mag keep the scope mounted as close to the barrel as possable and its good to 50 yards dead on.

Re: rifle scope mounts

Weaver makes a "See-Thru" mount that will allow you to use your iron sights for close range if that interests you. As far as a scope, I would go Bushnell before Simmons, but I don't own either. I see midsouthshooters.com has the 3-9X32mm Bushnell Rimfire w/rings @ $34.56.

Re: rifle scope mounts

JRJ, That Bushnell set up is probably the one I'll go with. Seems like a decent scope for not too much money. Ill try this first, and if I decide I need my iron sites, then I can always switch to the see through mounts. The set up for the .22 is a lot less expensive than for my 30-06. Thanks for everyone's input.

I don't like the see through mounts because it sets the scope so high that you can't put your cheek on the stock to sight through the scope. This creates a lot of wobble for me when I'm trying to shoot.

Re: rifle scope mounts

I agree with rottenray... I prefer a decent scope with larger optics vs see through mounts. The larger the diameter, the more light, the later you can shoot in low light conditions.
