Rig Weight

...I'm interested to know how much my entire rig weighs...with the trailer (scissor-type), for hauling purposes. I have a 24 foot Aqua Patio pontoon with a 115 Merc Inline 6. The gas tank is a 29 gallon, but I only haul with about 10 gallons in it. I also have a spare 6-gallon tank that's always full. Anybody out there know the weight of their rig (even if it's not a 24 footer) and how would I go about getting mine weighed? I've heard tell of people going to trucker weigh stations, but I wouldn't be so bold without the info....photos attached for reference.

Re: Rig Weight

Since you asked, my 21' Suntracker with two stroke 90 weighs just under 3500 pounds with twelve gallons of gas and the usual pontoon detritus. Why the hesitation to weigh at a weigh station? It's a piece of cake.

Re: Rig Weight

When I did mine I went to a truck stop. It was actually quite comical. Once I pulled onto the scale I had to push a call button, which was of course placed within reach of the typical truck driver, which meant I had to stand on my running board to reach it. The attendant asked whether I was private or commercial:confused: and I just told him I was weighing my party barge. Without batting an eye he said "private". I pulled off the scale and he gave me a certified printout that separately specified axle weight and total weight, which was kind of cool. I added those and subtracted the curb weight of my Expedition from the sum to get a very close approximation of my rig's weight.

...I do have one more question.....should I keep my trailer tires at the max psi or deflate them by 10 psi?? When I travel, I drive about 150 highway miles one way.

Re: Rig Weight

There are several discussions of that nature over in Trailers and Towing, but I believe most people agree max psi is best for a constantly loaded trailer. That's what I do.
