I got my 1976 Mercury 4.5 HP running easily, but got no acceleration when twisting the throttle. I opened up the cowling and found a broken plastic piece connecting the tiller twist accelerator to an arm that looks like it should push the arm that opens the throttle.

After repairing the plastic piece and reinstalling it, it does not line up. I can get the plastic piece in the hole on the arm but when it is inserted it allows no movement at all of the tiller twist accelerator and it gets nowhere close to pushing the bar that opens up the carburetor accelerator.

Here is a youtube video showing how the accelerator rigging looks.

Trying to post a video of the throttle rigging so someone can tell me what's wrong with it.

The black arm on the top of the carb rides on the cam on the front of your magneto plate. The magneto plate needs to rotate to advance the throttle. I'm not sure how strong your repair will be, but it needs to hold up to the torque needed to rotate the mag plate/stator.
