I recently bought a techmate pro from Rinda for my Mercruiser 350 mpi. Tried to perform an induced misfire test. It would only let me test cylinders 1-4. 5-8 I got an error saying it was not supported. Tried to test the injectors. Again 1-4 worked 5-8 wouldn’t test. So I tried it on a friends boat with same PCM. Same thing. Am I doing something wrorng or did I just pay 500 to be able to test only half of my engine ?

The scanner won't do a misfire test for your motor because it uses batch firing of injectors. Only ones that it will do a misfire test are those which have individual fired injectors like the 496 (8.1)

This is an example of batch firing, 1-4-6-7 and fired at one time and 2-3-5-8 get fired at another time

Yea, $500 for the 'scanner' seems like a bit pricey, considering the complete software (for a laptop) is not much more . . . AD had a great explanation of the injector firing above. :thumb:
