Rinker 192 prop size?

Hi all. It's been awhile since I have been on the board and I have a prop question. I recently bought a 98 rinker 192 with the 220 hp 305. I thought I was having trouble with the tach not reading right but I am starting to suspect it is correct and my prop is wrong. Tach reads around 5500 at wot. The prop is 14 1/4 x 22. I know I need to verify the tach to be sure but was wondering if anyone had an opinion on whether this sounds like the right prop? My last boat was a 18 1/2 ft celebrity and it ran a 14 1/4 x 23 with the 175 hp 4.3. It's really gonna be a bummer if this prop is wrong because it is a brand new ss unit. Thanks for reading, any and all opinions are appreciated.

Re: Rinker 192 prop size?

One of 2 things is wrong:

1. You have too low of a pitch...substantially...you're over-revving that motor by 700 rpm. You'd need to bump clear up to a 25 pitch or bigger to dial that out of it.

2. Your tach is wrong.

Verifying the tach is cheaper than buying another prop. Verify the tach first and report back.

If your tach is accurate, it probably means someone has changed your boat to a lower-than-stock outdrive ratio at some time in its life (common if boat was ever used at higher altitudes, etc)

Re: Rinker 192 prop size?

Thanks craze1cars. Upon further inspection turns out the tach is set for a six pole connection instead of the 8c setting. Looks like i might be where i need to be. Thanks again.
