Re: rinker181 mercruiser 135

Hi joe, wellcome aboard.First thing, low rpm =fuel economy, high rpm =drinks the fuel.On my boat(1750 Bayliner capri bow rider 3.0L 135HP)I had the same problems. It came with 14 1/4"x21pitch alum prop,so I changed to 13 3/4"x21 S/S and that gave a lot better hole shot and better handling.Than last week I got a set of Smart Tabs, fitted them and tried them out today.Well joe I thought I was in a differant boat.In hole shot the boat just jumped out of the hole and on to plane in 3 1/2 seconds. There is no need rest my knee on the seat to see over the bow any more, just sat in the seat.Handling has improved about 30% and the ride is much smoother. The boat stays level even at low rpm and the fuel gauge is a bit slower to drop.I could have stayed out a lot longer but the darkness put paid to that.If and only if you are interested in Smart Tabs you can get them at Union Chandlery in Cork priced at euro 189.78+39.85 vat.As for the leak,it could be coming from the drive bellows. You need to check the rubber bellows for cracks. If water is getting in through the bellows you could be in for U-Joint and bearing replacment.Hope not.Anyway, some of the guys here can give you a few pointers of where else to check for leaks and on the boats performance. Regards ;)

great stuff bayrider you just answered my main question i had just ordered that prop and thats great news.im not worried about juice.could you explane a bit about smart-tabs are they the same as trim-tabs on larger boats.i found the rubber on the gear link on the out-drive has split so i have bought the gaskets and myself, bayliner and his dad are going to strip it down and do the job.

Hi joe.You can learn all you need to know about Smart Tabs at www.Nauticusinc.com .If you need something explained just Email John@Nauticusinc.com .He,s a nice guy and will help you out if he can.About the price, don,t be shy about bartering on cost,I did and got £25 knocked of from a company in England.joe if you trailor your boat, try and leave the drive down when you park it at home. That will ease the stress on the drive bellows. Regards :)
