Last night my daughters boyfriend's Tahoe got stolen :( They went to Philly to see a concert and when they came out NO TRUCK!! I feel bad for him. The thing was really nice, he works hard to earn his $$$ and like most guys his age he put his heart and soul into the thing. He had those big chrome rims with low profile tires, he just put in a console TV and another TV in the back, with play station and all that jazz,, over the top if you ask me but thats the thing these days.

He paid ten bucks to park it in one of those lots where the guy sits in the booth,, supposed to be secure  I would be willing to bet when that guy working the lot saw the truck he called his BRO's and they came and got it. Of course the lot holds no responsibility or so they say.

I figure he will get book value on the truck and take a bath on all the extras he added. Buy now it is stripped and the thiefs have spent the money on heroin and crack.

Re: Ripped off!!!

That is terrible as can be Flathead. I know if it was mine, I wouldn't have driven it to an event where it would be out of my sight and or sights. :D I had a nice Triumph Gt6+ with all the sporty stuff, roll cage and all. It got stolen at a concert also.

Lucky though it was recovered. Thanks for a hidden 3 way gas valve. One position was off, position 1 was for regular gas, and position 2 was for the CAMII racing fuel. The car was found 3 blocks away.

Hopefully he gets a good settlement check.....SS

Re: Ripped off!!!

If your daughters boyfriend is fortunate enough to replace his Tahoe and the goodies in it, he should consider one of those "Lo-Jack" systems. I was leary of those vehicle theft recovery systems untull my son told me of two incidents that occured at his apartment complex, when he was going to college in Southern Calif.

One Honda Accord and one other type of vehicle, fairly upscale, were stolen from the parking area in front of the apartments, in a gated facility.
The first car one was located in the rear yard of the thief's home, about 25 miles away, two days later. The Honda was located in about two hours later, while it was been driven by the thief!!! :D (neat) :D

I have since done a turnaround on my thinking about the product. I have no Idea what they cost, but from what I understand, your insurance cost can be reduced, if the vehicle is equipped with one of these.

I also learned that the instalation location on the car is never divulged, even to the owner of the car.

I can't wait until the day I can buy a car that will need one of those devices

...Bob in Calif...

Re: Ripped off!!!

Sorry to hear the news.
Figure the insurance co will not come close to the real value, and probably only half of what he stuck into it. Unless he had an agreed value policy.

In my neck of the woods, we can tell who the visitors are. They are the ones that lock their cars with those beeping keychains. Heck, last night at 11pm, there were about a dozen cars at the grocery store, 3 of them unoccupied and engines running.

I don't miss living in a metro area.

Re: Ripped off!!!

That really sucks. One of my employees has his car stolen in Madison. The thieves drove it to a rave in Eau Claire, then set it on fire. He had his company laptop and a $2,500 cable scanner in the trunk. The Theives didn't even look before setting it on fire.

Re: Ripped off!!!

Hello
Lo-Jack works. so does a solinoid operated fuel shut off. much better than any other disabling device.I have seen the Lo-Jack type systems in the new Hydra-sports. I also found out the High bilge water alarm is silent on the boat but relays a sattilite message to a security firm that calls the owner or his representative and alerts them that the High bilge water alarm is sounding.
I found this while doing a 10 hour check on a 28 hydra with twin F225's. I tested the auto bilge then the bilge high water switch. no alarm from the switch. retested a few times and all apeared normal just no sound.as I was writing the "defect" up the owner came flying in the marina cause the company just called to tell him his boat was sinking :) :) :) .
he was impressed that we take the time to check the hull systems while doing engine services. I was impressed with the alarm systems installed.
My fiance lives in caracas Venezuela. when her Jeep cherokee was stolen her l0_jack found it 2 days later in the mountains. there to get coverage insurance it must have a transmissionlock, external remote doorlocks/alarms and lo-jack. if not no company will insure it. but that is also a land where the only thing a green traffic light means is the bulb is working. good luck and keep posting :)

Re: Ripped off!!!

Flahthead
Right after we bought a new s10 blazer 4x4, my wife had it over showing it to her mother. Before she could go in and get her mom to come out and look it over 4 #@!%$&'s (put your own word here) had the door open the radio out of the dash and the stearing lock almost busted out. She came out and caught them in the act, but didn't get the tag number (to upset). We fixed it, removed the 4x4 decals, added an alarm system and a nice cd player. ! more minute it would have been gone! So we know kinda how he feals, of course they never found the #@!%$&'s (put your own word here). Maybee your locals can do better!
Richard
