Hey I'm new to the boating world and have a few question's. I have a 86 28ft Riviera Cruiser pontoon that I'm trying to find out the hull rating. I looked online and there is suppose to be a sticker on the railing but there's not. The insurance company says its only rated for a 50 horse so they don't want to insure it but I think they are wrong, just can't prove it. Is there any way to find out what its rated for? It has a I think a 100hp motor on it. The hull ID# is RCD11458D686 if that helps. Thanks

Re: riviera cruiser help

I seriously doubt its rated for a 100hp engine due to the year & the size of the tubes. Most Riveria Crusiers in 198 had the small logs which where around 19-21 inches in diameter. You are going to have a hard time finding a rateing plate for the boat as I could not find one for the 1986 I just sold. The Coast Guard does not require a rateing plate on it due to the fact it is over 20ft in length. The insurance company is a monster unto itself & if they say a 50 & you have a 100 on it, guess what? They will not cover the pontoon & if you hit someone else you better have some deep pockets.

Your 1986 28' Riviera Cruiser is rated for 90 HP. All the 28 foot models that year were rated the same, except for their inboard models.. Call another insurance company...

Don't know who you are trying to insure it with but you may want to try progressive. My pontoon was made by Stardust and I tried a couple of insurance companies and they couldn't even find the boat in their database so they didn't want to insure. Happened to call progressive and it was simple, they asked what kind of boat, manafacturer, what HP motor I had on it, and how much I wanted to insure it for and gave me a price.
