RO filter help

Hi guys,

I have a GE Profile RO water filter system and was wondering if anyone happens to know how much pressure should go in the holding tank. Air pressure that is. GE says they won't tell me and they have to send someone out to check it in person. I'm sure there's a good reason for it, but I'm not paying someone to spend 10 seconds pumping air into a valve.

Does anyone know??

Re: RO filter help

I don't have a GE, but most if not all take
8 - 10 psi.
Just enough to get a good flow to stream out.;)

That's why they use a bicycle/hand pump so they don't over pressurize it.

I just went through this. I have a Kinnetico system.

Mine takes 4-7 psi. I can really tell when it gets below 5.

How old is it? Is it their older one piece unit, ie, bladder, prefilter and membrane inside with a torpedo type post filter on the outside? If so it is unique and a POS. Do you have a picture, then I could advise you.

If it is a conventional style two piece unit it came with a small holding tank. They are another POS (holding tank only) and bound for bladder failure. As mentioned above if it does have the seperate holding/bladder tank then 4/7 psi is correct. However if the bladder is intact you should never have to add air.

If you can't get any, or little water out of it and the tank feels heavy and full of water, then the bladder is shot and you need a new tank. The one piece unit I mentioned above might be a different story.

Re: RO filter help

Alright, thanks so much for the help. I do have the separate holding tank and I added 7 psi to the valve and it seems to be working fine now. I'll keep an eye on it to see if the bladder could be bad. So far so good though.

Thanks.
