Last friday I shut my puter down to go spend my annual weekend on the boat. Kept having trouble shutting it down. Finally I hit the main switch on the back of the unit. I get back sunday and turned the computer back on to get my dose of iboats. It wouldn't let me go online at all.

The modem lights were like this:
Power light ON steady
PC light ON steady
Cable light blinking on and off

I unplugged, shutdown firewall, shutdown virus protection, rebooted computer, and then called Road Runner. Be out thursday.

Now today, I get home and the cable light is on steady. Don't know what happened. Should I still have Road Runner people change out the cable modem?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

Re: Road Runner Cable modem ?????

Your modem probably lost block sync. Unplugging and or resetting modem is the first thing to try when this happens. If you're running a router, unplug it also. With both unplugged, power up modem first, let it sync. When the lights are normal again then power up router. After it re-initializes, then turn on computer.

Was your cable down or was your provider having trouble with their Internet service. Ask them people at Road Runner explain how to check the up stream and down stream signals. That will help you explain what is going on when you are having trouble.

I was having the same problem and they had to replace the wire from pole to house. Tv was working great but no Internet.

Good luck

Re: Road Runner Cable modem ?????

Thanks guys. Don't have a router. RR people had me do what they suggested, but the cable light kept blinking on and off. The server wasn't down cause my neighbors was working fine.

Larry, I did change the cable wire. Even took the modem right out to the main line coming in and it still did it. The case on the modem is busted from some large footed SIL stepping on it. But even though, it has worked that way for the past 4 or 5 years. Strange indeed. I'm still going to have them check it out anyway. They surpose to install my digital phone service also. Bye Bye Sprint and their raising rates! :D
