i was looking at my carb on my 73 140 merc and the butterfly is only connected with the choke rod. and I looked at the diagram with the manual and it doesn't appear anything is missing. Is the butterfly thermostatically activated only and the throttle is only by the accelerator pump?

I'm used to 4bbl automotive thats why i'm asking a dummy question.

The choke valve pull off is controlled by the thermostat. The choke rod helps to set the choke and opens the choke valve under heavy throttle to allow the engine to breath above idle even if the engine is cold. The accelerator pump is activated by the throttle.

okay, thats what it looked like. I was just making sure everything was hooked up right. So the butterfly will open only in accordance to the choke.

got it.
