Rebuilding a Rochester 2G, setting the floats, the float drop calls for 1 29/32, but when i took it apart it was closer to 1 10/32. If I set it to 1 29/32 like the sheet calls for the float drops so far the needle gets bound up and sticks open. Is this a misprint?

if memory serves me right (and it never does) your supposed to measure it with the gasket in place, are you doing that?

Re: rochester 2G float drop

yes i am.

Its about 9/16" difference between the way it came apart and what the sheet calls for. But I dont see any way the sheet can be right. If you let the float drop that far the needle drops so far it gets hung up and locks the float in the down position.

I dont really see any reason to have it drop that far, at the setting it was when it came apart the needle is fully unseated and wide open, I dont see any reason it would need to drop furthur. Unless someone has other info I think I am going to put it back together the way it came apart. I never had problems with it except for the accelerator pump needing replaced.

Re: rochester 2G float drop

Im measuring to the notch as shown in the diagram. But on that attachment there is a note that says the 'needle must not wedge at full drop'. So I take that to mean its something you have to watch for.

I also found another post on a different site from a carb builder who says he usually sets the drop at 1 3/8 which is pretty close to the 1 10/32 (1 5/16) I was measureing when i took it apart. I dont think im going to worry about it now. Im just going to double check the height and put the drop back where it was and run it.

The only problem I had been having was a hesitation off idle, but the accelerator pump will fix that. Otherwise it ran perfect. Im just doing a complete overhaul as good measure instead of just chaning the pump plunger.
