I was hoping I could get some feedback on rebuilding this carb. Carbsonly in burbank calif. has quoted me 139.00 to rebuild. Does anyone have any experience dealing with this outfit and I could use any other referals for a rebuild. My other ? is a rebuild kit is roughly 50$ is it worth an average joe like myself attempting? 305 185hp omc thanks

Depends on your mechanical skills and your equipment.
You need at least a gallon of carb cleaner you can soak your carb parts in after COMPLETE dissassembly. You then need to blow out all the passages with compressed air to make sure they are clean. Then put it back together checking all setting. If you don't have a manual, don't even attempt it.

It's not much different than a old Chevy carb. I just took mine to a gray haired old auto mechanic that I deal with. He rebuilt it for me easily. I don't remember how much but, it wasn't too much. You do have to find a older mechanic thought that knows about carbs. All these kids these days can't fix anything they can't plug there computer into.
