Rochester 2GC rebuild

I just finished rebuilding my Rochester 2GC, electric choke for my '76 Ford/Mercruiser 302. Not to bad of a job, but I'm having brain block. Everything went smoothly until I went to re-install the linkage on the carb. The choke plate has spring tension to close applied by the choke spring. At the same time, the linkage does not flip the choke plate open as the throttle would open up. This is the one thing I failed to make note of when I disassembled it. Does anyone have a diagram or picture of the proper routing of teh linkage? I think the problem is in my installation of the choke as the linkage is pretty straightforward, but I thought the throttle would automatically open the choke plate?

hello
with the carb in front of you and the choke coil opposite you the choke unloader goes on. the shft goues to the choke the tang will face your left and the small shouldered screw holds it on. its almost identical to a car only it has no fast idle cams on it. on an auto it would have. but this model just uses a weight of the tang and air velocity down the air horn to open the choke.
good luck and keep posting

Thanks Rodbolt. Sounds like I got it together correctly then. I just coudn't remember if the choke plate was normally open or not and wanted to double check. It looked like a part was missing, but none were left over ;) I may jsut need to back the choke off a tad.

Re: Rochester 2GC rebuild

JasonB, I have a 2GC with the heat riser choke on a 140hp OMC. Are the parts available to convert to electric, and how is yours wired?
Also, do I need a marine rebuild kit, or is automotive acceptable?
Thanks.

Re: Rochester 2GC rebuild

I would bet the parts are available, it is a simple two wire system. One 12v from the ignition switch and a ground. I ordered an aftermarket marine kit and it came in a Delco box so I'm betting there is no difference in the kit. It is just a set of gaskets, needle, seat, and a couple other items like check ball and clips.
