I have gas surging out of the carb when starting the motor. I just got the boat and haven't seen it run so don't know what it should look like normally, but I assume the gas should be spraying out in a mist but it is flooding out big time. I haven't had the carb off yet to clean or rebuild, I am wondering if this is a fuel regulator problem? I have some pics and can email them to you if this will help me in troubleshooting the problems. I assume I should start by taking off the card and cleaning everything?

EMail me at jfls40@yahoo.com to help me with this.

thank you,

Re: Rochester Carb Trouble

From your description it sounds like your carb float is stuck open or defective. Gas should not surge out of the carb at any time. This is a fire hazard. Your boat should have a mechanical fuel pump, but I guess I do not understand what you mean by "fuel regulator".

It is probably best to pull the carb, buy the rebuild kit for $20, disassemble and soak it and rebuild.

If you can press your nail into your float and see wetness/gas, your float isn't doing the job anymore and it should be changed as well.
