I'm putting a 1996 mercruiser (GM) 7.4l-454 back together after replacing the head gaskets. My shop manual gives all the torques for the head bolts EXCEPT these rocker arm retainer bolts. It does give adjustment advice for all engines EXCEPT those fitted with these shoulder bolts. These are not rods with nuts. They are a bolt, three inches long, with a half inch shaft without thread, then maybe a 3/8 diameter thread up an inch from the end. Think the rods call for 65 lbs. I set these bolts to 50 lbs, but just feels like too much. The shoulder sits against the head, metal to metal (no gaskets). I assume that's why there isn't a torque setting, but I wouldn't want one to come loose or break off. Does anyone know what they should be tighten down to? Thanks
