Need to go to the hardware store today to get a female torx socket for the connecting rods on my 86' 85hp force. Anyone happen to know what size it is?

I don't think it's a torx.I think it's a 12 point 5/16 or 1/4.It's been a while but.J

Confirmed Jerry...bought a E-8 and E-10 torx today and didn't work there was not enough contact points I believe there were only 6 points. I guess I have them for future use it was only $7 for the two. Going to get more tools tomorrow. Silly me should have paid closer attention! Also got the wrong socket for the flywheel nut I got 1 1/8th it must be 1 inch or between there.

Flywheel nut was 1 1/16th got it off no prob...problem is I cant get rest of the engine apart because the 5/16th was still too big for the rod bolts and the o reilly warehouse didn't carry any smaller size. Neither did lowes. Where do I get it? lol these stores makin it seem like it's a special tool or something.

Sears! 12 point 1/4 inch socket, 1/4 inch drive. Use a 1/4 inch, 3 inch long extension with an adapter to 3/8 drive. The bolts are tight and need some force to break free. Re torque to 185-190 INCH pounds
