After a few hours of practicing getting the rod cap on and getting frustrated I found that when the motor was initially built the assembler must have recently gotten a quart size bottle of loctite. I used a magnifying glass to look closely at the crack line surface and found hardened red loctite on the
surfaces. I used a pin as much as I could and cleaned the rest with a brush and solvent.Even the threads on the cap screws were encapsulated. The cap goes right together now, the fracture line disappears with almost no nudging. I plan on using Frank Acampora's through the intake procedure and it would be nice to know to know the rods are together properly (I hope).
I looked for previous posts on the subject and didn't really see any so maybe my motor was an odball but the fit after cleaning the rods was night and day.
