What is the useful life of the yamaha 10-micron fuel/water separator filter?
Those selling them say 50 hours or three months. Those using them say once each year.
The reason I ask;
I have a 2005 F150TXR 63P with 85 total hours, all in the last nine months. It got a new powerhead at 15 hours and it turned 6000 rpm after break-in but fell off to 5500 without any changes. I raised the motor up one hole and it turned 6000 that one day of use. Then it was back in the 55/5600 range without any changes.
I took it to the dealer. They did the download and a leak down test. TPS values were within parameters. Compression is high with <5% leak down on all cylinders. They scheduled for a factory rep to come do a water test to check things they say they can't do, but that hasn't happened yet.
Weekend before last after an hour run to destination it failed to crank after being docked for an hour. I found the pump bulb soft and empty (the only time I ever touched it) and it would not pump up. It started and died a few times but I got it to crank after pumping the throttle. It ran fine the rest of the day.
Last weekend it started fine but quit when I put it in gear. I started it and let it run a while at 1000 rpm to warm and it ran great for the day.
I called the dealer and they say I may have a fuel pressure problem and therein may be the rpm problem.
Could it be so simple as a fuel/water filter?
Thanks for your time.
