Re: roller replacement

Most are retained by either hogrings or shaft caps. No special tool that I know of.

I'm not familiar with that specific trailer but I've had some with C rings as fasteners. If so, local auto store C ring puller is about 5 bucks. Picture would help too.

Re: roller replacement

I just did that this weekend, those are called axle caps or shaft caps. I used a 5" grinder and ground down the outside of the cap until I hit shaft, then hit it with a big hammer and chisel and drove the axle/roller shaft out the other side. I got new rollers and roller shafts with caps so I could destroy the old ones in the process.

Look like shaft caps to me also though I've never seen any that were punched down like that.

It looks to like the steel rod was just pressed in three spots to flare it out so it had a bigger diameter than the washer. You'll need to grind the three lobes down. On something that size I usually use my Dremel rotary tool with a reinforced cut off disk. The small diameter makes it nice to get into tight areas.

That is what it looked like to me as well. Is the other end of that shaft the same?

Re: roller replacement

I looked closer and I agree, it looks like the end of the shaft is staked, at first looked like the washer was just a flange off of a shaft cap. Grinding the shaft back to round is the answer. I held the other end of the shaft with needle nose visegrips, and had a rubber tube around the handle in case it wanted to hit the hull. That looks like much less grinding than I had to do for the caps.
