My baby (19' John Allmand/Super Nova) is put for away for the winter so its time to rejoin my support group. I will pass the time hunting for new upgrades to do this spring. Keeps me alive till it warms up again. Thinking about roller rockers with a bigger ratio right now. Anybody use roller rockers in there boat? You like them?

Re: Roller rockers question

what kind of motor do you have? I've been wondering the same. You apparently can't get too radical on the cam (at least overlap) for fear of sucking water back into the intakes. But if any significant efficiency can be had by going to rollers, I might consider it.

OMC 302 190 hp Morph.(that is 302 block w/ 351 heads and cam)

Re: Roller rockers question

I have a 4.3 with Comp cams magnum roller rockers and they work great. They are stainless steel. I would not use cheap ones in a marine application. Going from a 1.5/1 to a 1.6/1 will be fine as long a your LSA is 109/112 deg. Any more seperation and your motor might suck water. I am currently hopping my blue water up with a new cam and some mild head work. I think that anytime you can reduce friction without hurting reliability you stand to gain not only more hp but the motor won't have to work as hard to make it either.

Re: Roller rockers question

360ci Mopar with to much to list. Dyno's at 329.8HP AT 5000RPM (WOT is 4800) 401.9ft lbs at 3500 rpm. The only thing I didn't do when I built the motor (for lack of money) was roller the cam and rockers. Rolling the cam is out now the motor is together (requires mech work) but now rockers are in my sights for the first buy of the off season.I think I need to give someone the specs of what I have and find out if I can use 1.6 with out hitting valves.
The cam has a max lift 105/115 if that helps and I use flat top pistons.
