Roller Trailer Issues

I'm new to a roller trailer. I have a 23' WellCraft Cabin Crusier.

1. The rollers look like hell. Do they take some type of bushing or bearings? See pictures, but it appears that either the washers, bearing, bushing is worn out in the center of the roller. Is this comon? Can the centers be replaced?

2. The people before me installed bunkers in the roller path. Is this comon? What should I do?

3. The front of the boat dont rest on the the pads. I adjusted the pads a couple of time now and still have issues.

3. How does the brake system actually work? (See picture) Do I need to worry about the brakes?

Any help would be appreciated..

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Roller Trailer Issues

Hi Scott
First of all, i don't think that you have enough rollers for that size of boat but I'm not sure. Are the rollers stiff/stuck or do they roll? I had the problem that they were stuck due to rust seizing them up (they looked the same as yours) so I use a long flat head screw driver to leaver the washers up (stick the end under the nut and lever it up on the edge of the roller) all the rust and grit falls out after a while (it takes a lot of work). I also used lots of WD40 which helped a lot. Alternatively you could buy new rollers (all over eBay)

The brakes work as when you brake in the car, the trailer wants to keep going which makes a bar compress forward at the front of the trailer, making the brakes come on. The harder you brake in the car the harder the brakes come on on the trailer.(That's If your trailer is braked, I can't see if it is as I can't see the very front of the trailer)

Good luck
Sam

Re: Roller Trailer Issues

Sam,

Thank you for your response.

Rollers - They're free and very loose! Maybe to loose! See pic... I was considering to remove the bunk that they placed in the middle of the rollers.

I have 4 set of rollers. At the rear of the boat - 2 sets with 8 rollers each. In the middle of the boat 2 sets with 4 rollers.

As far as the brakes.. I attached a picture of the front of the trailer. I haven't found any information about the brakes. On the side of the unit it has ATWOOD, Rockford, IL

Thanks,

Scott

Re: Roller Trailer Issues

sfree, they are called wobble rollers for a reason. They are supposed to be loose/wobble. How loose is a good question to which I still haven't found an answer. The one in your last set of pictures doesn't look that worn to me. But then again mine could be shot too though I doubt it!

Re: Roller Trailer Issues

Hi Scott
I think you do have enough rollers (couldn't see back ones on first set of pics) my rollers are very loose now too and I think that this is normal.
I think that the brakes on your trailer are different to the ones on mine so not sure how they work but if they are the same as mine then this video shows you how they work
