For valve analysis, original timing, etc, what is the best (proper) way to roll an engine very slowly, specifically a 140 HP 3.0 L ?? I can't imagine banging it along with my starter. I have always used two opposite, long bolts in the pump pully, a long iron bar, and a slight press with my finger on the belt. But I think the latest roll, that way, got me in real trouble....

Re: Rolling engine

a remote starter to bump the engine, or turn it with a ratchet connected to the balancer bolt

Hi Tom, Glad to see your feeling abit Better,+ Posting again........:)

On the In-line motors,.. The Balancer Bolt is behind the motor mount,... Not Good.....
Ya Can't put a Wrench on it.......

I prefer to Pull the Sparkplugs so it rolls over as Easy as possible,....
Then a Wrench on the Alt. is enough,....
Or even rolling it with your Hands on the Belt.....

I remember your thread Bruce,...... I'm Not at all convinced that you Broke anything by turning it over By Hand..........

Hi Bond-o...
You are right. No key sheered. It is the rubber vulcanized in the balancer that appears to be slipped.....
