was given a 88 glasstream. cover was dry rotted, set up for 3 years. after 6 hours of hard labor removing water, pine needles and scrubbing interior. it looks pretty good. engine compartment is dry and very clean. engine looks almost new. got it to turn over but left it at that. never owned anything like this. only 14 ft fishing boat with 9.9. need to check for spark and try to get fuel to carb. its a 2.2 ford engine, omc super cobra. removed cover on lower unit, looks like motor oil in this resevoir. oil looks like it was put in yesterday. do i have a better chance of getting this thing running with less problems than if it was say a 150 mercury?

gregs, First of all " New Gas" should be fed to the carb if you want to get anywhere You may be able to rig an outboard tank to the fuel pump inlet with a rubber hose "BE CAREFUL"
Clean all battery connections and grounds, hook up water to the outdrive in the down position, check the oil and give it a go.Come back and let us know if she starts or note the symptoms. Welcome and Good Luck

gregs,

Agree with B&B.

At least you will probably need a new water pump.

DO NOT use the fuel in the tank.

By the way, that is a Ford 2.3 liter. A very durable engine. It was rated at 128 HP, at the prop.

gregs,

I/O's do not have telltales, like outboards. Your buddy is right. You will have to keep a very close visual inspection. Your temp guage should not exceed 160 degrees F.

One cable is for the gear shift, the other is throttle.

hello
if you had the cover off the upper drive you will need to properly torque the bolts and use a new oring and some gasket sealant like perfect seal.
good luck but if it was me and your not sure what your doing buy a service manual and read it at breakfast while chomping wheaties so you become familiar with your rig
good luck and keep posting

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to fog the cylinders as well, if it has been sitting without being run for awhile.........

I'd fog the cyls, but i'd also prime the oil pump (after a fresh oil change), before trying to start it. I dunno how much oil will be left in the crank after 3 years of sitting.

-- Joe
