Rookie Mistake on 1996 Force 90Hp Rebuild

Ok so this is my first attempt at rebuilding an outboard power head. New kit, new pistons, bearings everything new. Mark which pistons came out of which cylinder and kept everything together during disassemble. Tore down and rebuilt pistons but FORGOT TO MARK WHICH SIDE OF THE PISTON ROD WAS UP. :embarassed::embarassed::embarassed:
I had a machine shop polish and hone everything including the rod and caps and crank but for the life of me can not remember/figure out which side of the rod was facing the top.

The picture shows the pistons and crank when I took them out and I labeled them OVER THE DANG NUMBERS!!! I can make out #2 which way it came out but not sure on 1 and 3. Any ideas on how to figure this out so late in the game? I think 1 and 3 (from the picture) look opposite of #2 but not sure if that make since at all or if there is a uniformity when motors are put together?

Any help? Greatly appreciated! TIA

On one half of the piston top is the intake side, and the other half is the exhaust side.
When you put the pistons in the block put the intake side of the piston on the intake side of block and the exhaust side of the piston on the exhaust side of the block.
The exhaust side of the piston top has the long slope down.

As jiggz mentions, the piston rod and the cap has a dent/dot in the casting.
This should facing up against the flywheel/top.

Thanks for the advice guys, however after reinspecting the rods I see #1 has a "dot" but #2 and #3 do not but they do have what looks to be a "T" on them all rods have the model numbers on opposite sides. My thoughts are to use the "T" and make them all uniform to that. What do you guys think or if you were in my shoes what would you do?

Trying to post pictures but they wont load will try to load them later.

First is #1 then #2 and then #3 fourth pic is the casting model number which is the same on all 3. See nothing for marks on the caps. Model 640-9612

Thanks for any advice.

I read/interpreted your question wrong,
Jiggz and Nordin answered your question, The markings go up on the piston rod ,, The piston rod and cap has a dent that faces up toward the flywheel which is the top. Damn this forum is awesome.

Following the Clymer manual, ". . . the connecting rod scribed identification numbers (cast numbers) must face up" In your case, this means the side with letter "T" faces down. Reviewing your first pic on the original post this seems to be the case.

I have to clarify myself a bit.

When I mention about the dot/dent it shold be in the casting at the big end of the rod just above the crack/edge. It should be located at the same place of the rod cap too.
They should line up/face agais each other and the mounted at the crank face up against the flywheeel top.

If you have the notches on the rod cap, those definitely needs to be up.
