Rookie system check question

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I just picked up a 97 150 it has a horn on it but system check 8 pin plug isn't connected to anything. I know the brown wire from horn goes to that 8pin plug. So basically my question is will the horn not sound if I don't have any system check component attached? I'm trying to figure out if it's running hot and am having trouble because it looks as if the temperature wires were soldered to engine harness by previous owner

Get yourself a cheap temp gun and check your temperature with that.

I know of no way to make the warning circuit work without either a system check guage or a system check tachometer. That's what the 8 pin plug goes to.

They make a Systems Check Horn Driver Module. It takes the place of the tach that is normally installed. Makes the horn functional.
Any Evinrude dealer will know what this is....I don't have the part number tho.

EDIT: go to ebay and do a search on "horn driver module evinrude" and you get 8 hits.
Varying prices....PN is 0176794
