Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and would appreciate any help with the subject...I feel sure this is nothing new but failed to find in a search of the forum...
I have a '97 Johnson 25(2-cyl) that has a rope start...I'm too darn old to yank on a rope and would like to convert it to electric start while retaining the pull rope. My engine is a J25REUM... thanks in advance for any help...

it would be cheapest and easiest to sell what you have and buy what you want.

however to obtain the parts you need to add electric start and charging to your existing engine can be found in the parts breakdown.

you will need a starter, wiring harness, and the charge stator for the motor and a bunch of other bits. your best bet would be find a blown up motor with electric start and swap the parts over.

Thanks Scott,
Does it get any easier it I have no interest in a charging system...my fishing boat already has a battery on board for the trolling motor which gets a charge b4 going anywhere...

A donor motor with electric start is the best way to go.-----Need the flywheel too I think.----Lot of this stuff is no longer available new anymore.

You'll find the stuff on Ebay.. That motor is a very old motor actually first produced in 1976. Not every thing goes back that far, but all your looking for is the starter, the bracket it bolts to and the flywheel. If you don't care about the charging system.. A simple push button starter button and a couple feet of cable for the battery connections is all you'll really need to get it to spin over without pulling the cord
