Rosa Parks, whose refusal a half-century ago to give up her seat to a white passenger on a bus in Alabama launched a new era in the civil rights movement, died yesterday. She was 92.

Sad to hear. She was a pioneer.

Her offspring have turned her goal of equality into race-baiting.

Respect for her-YES! Her offspring-NO!

Re: Rosa Parks

We have a place near here that sells mulch. My buddy and I were riding by and saw a large sign, "Colored Mulch". I thought he was going to drive off the side of the road when I told him they made it ride in the back of the truck.

Dan

I agree, that occurs because the hangers-on are allowed to excercise their ultra liberal influences from the coat tails of those that shed their blood sweat and tears to establish the freedoms which we today enjoy.

Re: Rosa Parks

The implication here is that she was a fwd thinking leader. I always figured that she just got fed up with it all and refused to give up her seat. A++ marks for guts. I recall that the local black people all boycotted the buses for about a week. East Texas.

To which offspring do you refer to DJ, and what exactly did they do to deserve no respect?

I'm curious.

This photo is of a person who, like DJ points to, plays the race bait card to its fullest potential. I DO BELIEVE the Mrs. Parks would frown upon the undignified as well as disrespectful public statements that the likes of Jackson delivers.

My absolute Thank You to Rosa Parks for her message as well as Her bravery to make the statement She did. Did you know a few years ago Mrs. parks was assaulted and robbed? The perp claimed it was due to his drug habit!

Re: Rosa Parks

ZMOZ
I kinda did to. I think we studied about her buss thing when I was in about the 3rd grade. something about "I am tired and my feet hurt and I aint gonna move". what she did then took guts though. that or them feets really really hurt. or both.

rodbolt,

C'mon. You didn't even know she was still alive, or had offspring.. That disqualifies you.

PW2,

Her "offspring" are known "contributors" and conspirators in the "Rainbow Coalition"/Jesse Jackson. Let's call it for what it is" A race based org. bent on cashing in on white guilt. They've hijacked many corp's., most notably-Toyota. Look it up.

As said, she was a pioneer. I love her for it. Her offspring have gone "off the deep end", so to speak.

Not a Republican v. Democrat issue, unless you want to perpetrate a lie.

Re: Rosa Parks

Rod,

I think you need one of the secret decoder rings when repubs talk, so that you can figure out what they really mean when they say what they say.

As for Rosa Parks, she was a brave woman, no doubt.

But to the extent she started the race struggle in this country, she didn't end it. We continue to have a race problem in this country.

It's been a struggle fought between the black community and mostly White Christian males. Hardly a generation ago, we witnessed our leaders trying to block school children from even attending schools, etc.

Now we as a society have made significant progress in the last generation, but it has been in spite of the White Christian males in this country, and not because of them.

All sorts of tactics have been employed to achieve that progress, from the peaceful demonstations of people like MLK, to the more radical Malcom X, and all manner of others.

To the extent that new black leaders use pressure tactics, some of which may be disagreeable to some, it is not difficult to understand. Even if you disagree with the tactic.

When for a generation they have been fighting White Christian males every step of the way, it may not be the easiest thing to convince these black leaders that the solution to their problems rests with the new batch of White Christian leaders.

Re: Rosa Parks

PW2
growing up in MS and AL in the 60's I went through my share of Race riots at school and such. even got to watch Wallace in action. some of the stores and resturunts still did not like serving blacks and usually made it so uncomfortable for them that they did not go there. me I was to greedy and would fix anything for anybody. money was money no matter the color of the hand that forked it over. I was lucky in my parents were so much more race tolerant than my friends. my father was born on long island NY and my mother from newport news VA. somewhat more tolerant than grandbay AL and pascagoula MS.
while I understand some of the tactics I dont approve of most. some of them have far outlived what usefullness they had and are now a detriment.
and we are not the only country that has race or ethnic problems, many of ours are small compared with other countries. it all goes back to the Dr suess and his star bellied sneeches. a good political book :)

Re: Rosa Parks

While I don't agree with all the tactics used either, but I can certainly understand them.

We simply don't live in a color blind world, and pure merit doesn't always cut it.

How did you find your last job? If you are like about 9 in 10 Americans, you got your job because you knew somebody, or someone recommended you. That is the default position in this society, and frankly it is going to take some pressure tactics at times to realize a change. It won't happen all on its own, or by accident.

And say all you want about the race riots, but they did more to speed the progress than MLK ever thought of doing. That may well be a sad commentary, but it is true.
