Well put.
To confirm this allow me to relay my latest experience with my boat. A 26' Tollycraft sedan bridge with a 7.4 (454 chev.) mercruiser straight shaft. These numbers are at WOT and I only do WOT to see how the package is working.
When I got it it would rev 4000 rpm and go 18 mph (gps). I tuned it up and it went about the same. I pulled it up and pressure washed the hull and knocked the barnacles off the prop and rudder. This gave ne about 23 mph @ 4100. The boat had a little vibration so I checked the shaft (and had it straightened). This gave me about 26 mph @ 4400 rpm. This year I ground the old hull paint off before I repainted and cupped the prop. Now it gets 30 mph @ 4200 and is smooth as silk going 20 mph @ 3050 rpm (4 people, 150 gallons of fuel and 20 some gallons of water). Cool eh? A 26' Tolly weighs in at a hefty 9000+ lbs. These are GPS confirmed speeds. You're 100% correct with my experience Roscoe. See pics. on my homepage link.
